Dulce Base (1979–)

"Dulce Base" is one of the most widely circulated underground-base legends: it claims that beneath Archuleta Mesa, near the town of Dulce, New Mexico, lies a multi-level laboratory jointly run by humans and aliens, conducting genetic and hybridization experiments — and that in 1979 a firefight even broke out there between human forces and the aliens. The lore describes craft moving between subterranean tunnels and the surface, which is why it belongs in the *trans-medium* (ULO) category rather than among classic aerial sightings. The story actually grew out of the observations and misreadings of businessman Paul Bennewitz in the late 1970s^[1], and was later embellished into a cornerstone of American conspiracy culture.
