At ~04:08 on 17 April 1958, 23-year-old David Weaver — son of a Detroit policeman and an ex-Civil Air Patrol cadet — was driving home from work when he saw a circular object with a crystal-type reflective dome crossing southwest-to-north over Detroit near Six Mile and Lamphere. Weaver phoned the FBI Detroit Field Office at once and tried to contact Selfridge AFB. This Office Memorandum, prepared by SA Robert Ross Reynolds, was declassified per FBI Automatic Declassification Guide on 24 May 2007 and released by NARA on 25 February 2025.
